Protect your
Engine
A vehicle's engine generates enough heat to destroy itself.
The cooling system protects the engine from overheating
which can result in permanent damage to the engine. Here are
some tips to help protecting and preventing your engine from
overheating:
-
Flush dirt,
bugs and leaves from front of radiator. Carefully use a
brush and garden hose.
-
Check
condition and level of coolant. If it is rusty, clean
the system and replace with a 50/50 mixture of water and
ethylene glycol anti-freeze.
-
Inspect the
radiator cap. Replace it if the rubber gasket is broken,
dried out or missing.
-
Inspect
radiator and radiator hoses for leaks, cracks or soft,
mushy condition. Tighten all clamps. Replace hoses and
clamps as needed.
-
Check Heater
hoses for leaks, cracks, rotted rubber. Replace faulty
clamps.
-
Check all
engine belts for wear and cracks. Replace if worn,
cracked or glazed. Adjust loose belts. Usual life is
about four years.
-
If a
temperature gauge shows the engine is running too hot or
cool the thermostat may be jammed and should be
replaced.
-
Clean all
filters on regular basis
